 | 233998 | Nov 30, 2005 3:14pm | There are things that work better in real life than they do on the internet. There are things that work better on the internet than in real life. I am sure we all can think of several examples but can we answer them? Lets see. You may change the topic at anytime and talk about something else or you may continue the persons previous topic.
Topic:Friendship
Friendship is a tough topic because there are many different types of friendship one can share with someone. The type I am going to ponder is the type of friendship that would make you call someone your best friend.
In my humble opinion I believe that the foundation of a friendship has to be built in the real world. The internet isn't the matrix so we can not share things, experiences, or even go out for a beer. You know your with your good friends when you are puking drunk and walking with you friends arm in are holding each other up walking home from some bar and you fall over laughing once or twice along the way back to the dorms.
The internet hit a higher level in the brain. As we can debate, share feelings, and exchange ideas but it is the physical things that are lacking. It may be harder to travel to some city to visit my friends but the trip it always worth it.
The internet can be someplace like cheers. Where you go at the end of the day to chat with your friends who are far away but given the chance to go out with a few friends for beer and wings vs. talking to all of your internet friends; I hope you would pick the beer and wings in real life. I would. |

But it is surely possible to not have friends in life too. Each minute we pass with the computer is a minute passed with the virtual man: the no man's land. A lot of persons do their life without friends or forgetting them, and die without history...
Humanity is not in a computer although we sometimes think we keep in touch with it when we lonely pass a lot of time with the machine...
Also, when we look how our friends are going in life, each time we live a deception because they are completely absorbed in superficial conversations while our humanity, or all our subjectivity is going in a big garbage can, sometimes, it seems better for health to not pass too much time with them...
Altough, I would be pleased to drink a beer with them... if they choose to be humans.. not machines themselves...
ps. sorry for my very bad english langage... désolé! |
